Pound
Party, November 2007 |

President Mary Anne Spearin was a busy auctioneer during our Pound Party
that raised $121.50 for P.A.W.S. Animal Shelter in Calais.
Members were asked to bring a plain, brown paper bag filled with a pound
of "anything" (suggestions had been macaroni, fudge, nails, etc.)
Successful bidders went home with a pound of various items including
muslin, buttons, potpourri, mystery books, charm
squares, patterns, kissing ball, fresh vegetables, and more!
Although everyone imagined the next bag might contain a pound of fudge, at
the end we realized nobody had brought that chocolaty treat!

Double Wedding Ring with Mary Anne Brown,
June 2007 |
|
Bride-to-be
Mary Anne Brown did an inspiring program on the ease of making a Double
Wedding Ring quilt using John Flynn's templates and technique. We
couldn't believe that the arched rings started as simple strip sets.
Several members said they'd always wanted to make this
quilt and there was lots of interest in doing a workshop in the future.

Members looked on as Mary Anne explained the "darts" sewn
into the strip sets
to make the arched ring units for a Double Wedding Ring quilt.

Thread Painting demonstrated
by Dana Bard, January 2007 |
Dana presented a very interesting program
on thread painting at this month's business meeting. She explained
the basic technique of building up areas with thread using a sewing
machine, discussed different methods for doing this, and reviewed
different threads, needles and stabilizers that are available.
Here she points to a Siamese cat made
using this technique (wallhanging made by Susan Plachy). She also
displayed some
of her own works including a quilt she calls
"Dandelion Nonsense" (on table). |
